Wilma Mae Landon, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born on May 25, 1937, the daughter of Maurice and Sadie J. (Schnitzler) Pierce. Wilma attended school at Bowen County School. On February 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Byron G. Landon at the Baptist Church in Lancaster. After their marriage, the couple farmed for 47 years in Little Grant Township. They retired from farming in 1998, and Wilma continued to live in the same home for over 65 years. In 1998, Wilma began employment at Gasser True Value in Lancaster until she retired in 2017. She enjoyed mowing, watching the birds, gardening, drinking coffee, feeding her cats and ranger rides around her farm. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Wilma was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church and it’s Ruth Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, Grant Regional Auxiliary, Merry Mixers 4-H, card club, and served as a superintendent at the Grant County Fair since 1982. She also volunteered her time at the election booth for Little Grant Township.
Survivors include her 4 children: Larry (June) Landon, Fennimore, Sandra (Richard) Taylor, Michael (Gloria) Landon, Alan (Sarah) Landon, all of Lancaster; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her siblings: Marion Pierce, Darlington, Bob (Mary) Pierce, Livingston, June (John) Gallmann, Janesville, and Charlotte Burton, Livingston; son-in-law, Tony Bausch, Lancaster; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Byron in 2006, her daughter, Barbara Bausch in 2018, grandchildren, Tyler Bausch in 1998, Jason Landon in 2012, Aaron Taylor in 2013; 9 siblings; in-laws: June Pierce and Kenny Burton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor David Kim officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed on the funeral homes Facebook page. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Wilma M. Landon Memorial Fund has been established.
