William F. "Bill" Mitchell, age 101 of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. He was born November 22, 1914 in Los Angeles, California, the son of William and Jessie (Wilson) Mitchell. William married Caroline E. Lutz and together they farmed in the Lancaster area. He later built pole buildings for David Lumber Company of Potosi. William enjoyed reading, woodworking, playing cards, and making many, many comforters for family and friends. He dearly loved his family, and keeping up with their activities.
Surviving is a daughter Darlene (Richard) Hood; a son Daniel (Marcia) Mitchell, both of Lancaster, three grandchildren: Brian (Bonnie) Hood; Brad (Heidi Loy) Hood; Jeni (Jared) Kriz; five great-grandchildren: Denver, Jerrica, and Carmen Hood; Dezirae Hood, Andrew Kriz; three brothers: Harvey Mitchell; Richard (Pat) Mitchell; Clifford Mitchell; one sister: Nancy (Ed) Denzin; many nephews and nieces.
William was preceded in death by his loving wife Caroline on August 11, 1994, an infant daughter Connie; three brothers: Alan, Don, and Faye Mitchell; and one sister, Doris.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at Schwartz Funeral Home
