Wayne W. Sagehorn, age 87, of Cassville, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster, WI.
Wayne was born on February 9, 1930, the son of Dietrich "Dick" and Hulda (Kassube) Sagehorn. He grew up in Bertha, MN, and graduated from Bertha High School in 1948. Wayne was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and baseball, and was named to the Minnesota All-State team in football. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. While stationed at Camp McCoy, Wayne met Mary Ellen Reisenauer, and they were united into marriage on August 31, 1952, in Tomah, WI.
He started work with Wisconsin Power & Light in Tomah, and transferred to Cassville in 1959 when the Nelson Dewey Generating plant was built. He retired in 1987 as assistant plant manager. He was a member of the Mumm Welsh American Legion Post No. 352 of Cassville.
Wayne is survived by his children: Susan (Carl) Uppena of Cassville, Steven (Nancy) of Platteville, and David (Kathy) of Neenah; 7 grandchildren: Joseph (Melissa) Uppena, James Uppena, John Sagehorn, David Sagehorn, Kara (Steven) Genin, Corey Sagehorn and Jennifer Sagehorn; great-grandchildren: Easton, Beckett and Brooks Uppena (and Baby Uppena due in September) and Natalie Genin (and Baby Genin due in August); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ellen, granddaughter Jill Uppena, and three brothers: Leonard (Leone), Armand (Delores) and Melvin (Gladys) Sagehorn.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 313 Fredrick, Cassville, with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial with military honors was in Cassville Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to the Cassville Rescue Squad, of which Wayne was a charter member.
