Wanda M. Shaw, age 83, of Potosi, formerly of Sun Prairie, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born on May 23, 1930, the daughter of Conrad and Martha (Divenney) Swanson. On May 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lyle E. Shaw in Rockford, IL. Wanda worked many places, including seven years at John Deere in Dubuque, until layoff. She ran the Legion Bar in Potosi along with a good friend, George Stappert, Sr.. She then worked at Evco Plastic in Deforest, until retirement in 2007, at the young age of 76. Wanda was a Gold Star mother due to the death of her oldest son being killed in Vietnam.
Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, enjoying games and cards; she always had her book of Hoyle handy. She enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling to Europe, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii with her family. She spent many hours fishing. Wanda enjoyed going to Badger games and watching the Packers and her beloved Cubs.
Survivors include five sons: Karl (Virginia) Shaw, Clarksville, TN; Kyle (Avis) Shaw, Yuma, AZ; Kurt (Denita) Shaw, Glendale, AZ; Konrad (Brenda) Shaw, Puyallup, WA; Kendall (Linda) Shaw, Sun Prairie; one daughter, Katrina (Larry) Percival, Potosi; twelve grandchildren: Jennifer (Jerry) Shouse; Hazel Green, AL; Greg Shaw, Camp Pendleton, CA; Brandie (Josh) Lenou, Yelm, WA: Tarra Shaw, Milton, WA; Brittany Shaw, Seattle, WA; Mike (Megan) Shaw, Lancaster; Douglas (Elisabeth) Shaw, Lancaster; Chris (Jeanette) Shaw, Kenosha; Nick Shaw, Rochester, NY; and Kelly Percival, Pharm D., Springfield, IL; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren: Dawn (David) Sims, Sylacauga, AL; Michelle Straka, Belvidere, IL; and Brian (Peggy) Haupt, Boscobel; seven step-great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Shaw (1992), two sons, Kerry and Kris Shaw; granddaughter, Jacqueline Shaw; grandson, Eric Percival; a daughter-in-law, Veronica (Richardson) Shaw; two brothers: Harry (Violet) Swanson and Willard (Lucille) Swanson; two sisters: Phyllis (Charles) Squires and Mickey (Paul) Carter.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services all at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Wanda M. Shaw Memorial Fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Grant County Hospice and the wonderful staff at Orchard Manor who assisted our mother in her last days with us.
