Walter C. "Walt" Hampton

Walter C. "Walt" Hampton, age 91, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Walt was born on July 31, 1926, the son of LaVerne and Gertrude (Kirschbaum) Hampton in Glen Haven. He married Mary H. Wille on March 28, 1951 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. Walt spent his better years farming in North Andover where he enjoyed Hereford cattle, hunting and fishing. His senior years were spent collecting toy tractors. Walt was a member of the Glen Haven Fire Department for 20 years and the Knights of Columbus for 30 years. He was also a member of the VFW post 148 of Bloomington.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Mary; their children, Stan (Kay) Hampton, son-in-law Doug Moris, Larry (Connie) Hampton, Jim (Mary) Hampton, Rick (Rhonda) Hampton, Jeanie (Roger) Vogt and Dean (Mary) Hampton along with 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; his sister, Lois Dechow; brothers: Eugene "Pete" (Marsha) Hampton, Loren "Butch" (Linda) Hampton; sister-in-law, Rose Hampton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved daughter, Diane Moris; infant grandson, David "DJ" Vogt; sister and brothers, Betty Hampton, Norman "Jiggs" (Delores), LaVerne "Junior" Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Fireman's Last Call Service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father John Meinholz and Father John Moser officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 8:45 a.m. at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is serving the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Walt Hampton memorial fund has been established.
