Walter A. Stoney, age 72, of Platteville, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on August 11, 1941, in Lancaster, the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Wiedmann) Stoney. Walter attended country school. He farmed with his parents and worked in the mines in Tennyson. On September 12, 1962, Walter was united in marriage to Julie Rogers in Galena, IL. Walter was employed with Williams Tree Service trimming trees for forty years. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and machinery, hunting, camping, animals of all kinds, and spending time in the woods. Walter also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He loved the simple life the woods provided. Walter will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; their children: Bob (Karla); Jay (Audrey); Roger; Stan (Darcy Tracy); Dawn Stoney; Angi (Jim) Humes; six grandchildren: David, Lucas, Cody, Cheyenne, Jessica and Shelby; two great-grandchildren: Lani and Landyn; his siblings: Kate (Jim) Flynn; Mary (Grant) Edge; Joyce Daniels; Pat (Ronnie) Fritz; John (Deb); Paul (Louise); Gary (Cindy); Shirley (Royce) Wehrle; sister-in-law, Sharon Stoney; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a son, David; a brother, Leo, and a brother-in-law, Victor Daniels.
Family greeted friends on Monday, September 23, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster. Private family services will be held. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Walter Stoney Memorial Fund has been established.
