Virginia Ann Miles, age 89, of Cassville, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born September 8, 1927, the daughter of Henry J. Kovars and Mary L. "Rene" Standorf. She went to Pleasant Valley grade school and started high school in Muscoda. In 1941 she went to live with her mother, Rene and stepfather, Clyde Potter. In 1943, she went to St. Louis, MO, and in 1944 she returned to Wisconsin to live with her mom and stepfather. Virginia went to Madison, in 1945 and worked at the Naval base and waitressed at the Belmont Hotel and the Lawrence Cafe. On May 10, 1947, she married Ted Blum and they moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1950. In Chicago, Virginia was employed at the Bunny Candy Co. and was a waitress at Solick' s Restaurant and Tap. They divorced in 1954. While still living in Chicago, Virginia married Joseph Demes on March 5, 1955. They returned to Burton, Wisconsin in 1966. Joe died in 1967 and Virginia moved with their two children to Chaffee Hollow Road. She worked at an optical factory in Platteville and later Rapid Die and Molding Company in Cassville until 1972. Virginia married Keith F. Miles August 15, 1969. They farmed until his death in 2007. Virginia then retired with he r dog, Annie and cats, Gypy and Boo to Lenz Lane, Cassville in 2008. Virginia was known for her awesome baking and cooking skills. She loved traveling, especially road trips. Virginia was a crafter and did ceramics. She enjoyed reading westerns, doing puzzles, playing cards, working outdoors and listening to country and western music. Virginia especially enjoyed spending time with her family. All her generations of grandchildren were very dear to her. She loved spoiling them with treats and hugs and kisses.

 

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter Bonnie L. Brinkman, stepson, Tim "Smiley" Miles, grandson, Joe Lord and three great-grandchildren, her siblings: Robert Kovars, Henry O. Kovars, John Kovars, Robert (Nancy) Potter, Lavonne Kovars Fortner, Rosalie Kovars Post, Jean Potter Buss; Brothers- in-law: Russell Hixson and Warren Buss and three infant Kovars brothers.

 

Virginia is survived by her children: Cassinda (Charles) Pitzen and Lucas (Robin) Demes; stepchildren: John (Kathy) Miles, Jackie Yoose, Cindy (Pat) Ley, all of Cassville and Mitch Miles, IA; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and 8 step-great grandchildren; her siblings: Lavetta Kovars Hixson, Jack (Millie) Kovars , Alvin (Norlinda) Kovars, Rollin (Kathy) Kovars, Joseph (Elaine) Kovars, Mary Kovars (Billy) Culligan , Sam Kovars, Wanda Potter Gansemer; a sister-in-law, Janice (Bob) Kovars; many nieces and nephews.

 

Following Virginia's wishes, there was no visitation or funeral. Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township, with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. A Celebration of Life followed burial at the Beetown Town Hall, Beetown. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is entrusted with services.
