Victor H. Recker, age 88, of Bloomington died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was born December 16, 1919, in Bloomington, WI, the son of Andrew and Josephine (Oval) Recker. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bloomington and then farmed in the Bloomington area. On February 14, 1950, he married Alice Ann Blum at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1999. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4416 of Bloomington, and a member of the NFO. Victor enjoyed farming, playing cards, and traveling and he dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by 10 children: Mary (Richard) Loftus, Columbia, MO; Ruth (Dale) Cary, Glenbeulah; Andrew (Mary) Recker, Soldiers Grove; Edward (Carol) Recker, Lancaster; Beverly (James) Callahan, Prairie du Chien; Irene (Lawrence) Callahan, Belgium; Anthony (Robbie) Recker, McFarland; Louise (Robert) Wiederholt, Phillips, NE; Louis Recker, Bloomington; and Joseph (Alana) Recker, Bloomington; 34 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his brother, Alfred Fritz Recker, Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents; his two grandchildren: Jason Callahan and Dawn Recker; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Recker; and four sisters: Philomine Steinl, Julia Gruender, Ludwina Mergen, and Delores Klinkhammer.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Friends also called from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday morning.
