Velma K. Wetter

Velma K. Wetter, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan in Fennimore. She was born on November 23, 1930, in Little Grant Township, the daughter of Francis and Lela (Bennett) Edge. Velma graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948 and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin -Platteville Teachers College. She taught at Badger and Shady Dell country schools for a short time. On June 18, 1952, Velma was united in marriage to Donnie Wetter at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed on the Wetter family farm in Little Grant Township. Velma loved the farm and her cows. After they left the farm and retired to Lancaster, Velma worked for the Herald Independent and volunteered as a driver for the Commission on Aging. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle. Velma enjoyed gambling, playing cards, traveling, and gardening. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her children's clothes. Velma dearly loved her family and took great pride in her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two daughters: Julie Wetter Briel, Fennimore; Jill (Paul) Udelhoven, Columbus; four grandchildren: Chloe Briel (fiance Kyle Reese); Sawyer Briel (Liz Stein); Michelle Udelhoven (Jacob Boerner); Michael (Krystal) Udelhoven; one great-grandchild, Oliver Udelhoven; a sister, Mercedes Mumm, Dodgeville; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie on December 14, 2012; her siblings: Aleise Wetter, Marion Leifer, and George Edge.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Velma K. Wetter Memorial Fund has been established.
