Velma E. (Voigts) Masbruch, age 96 of Monona formerly of Platteville, died Saturday March 18, 2023, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg.
She was born July 13, 1926, in Belmont, the daughter of Harry and Helene (Gratz) Voigts. Velma married Elmer Masbruch on November 20, 1946, at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont; he preceded her in death July 2011. She farmed alongside her husband Elmer in Platteville from 1947 until 1977. Velma was a very active member of the Lutheran Church of Peace Platteville, especially with her sewing group and the Ruth Circle. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. Velma was proud to say that she made a cross stich picture for many family members.
She is survived by her 5 children: Carol (William III) Hughes of Fall River, WI; Glen Masbruch of McFarland, WI; Janet (James) Leavitt of Phoenix, AZ; Marlene (David) Trine of Cottage Grove, WI; Susan (James) Johanns of Cottage Grove, WI; 14 Grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her siblings: Guerdon (Rosalyn) Voigts, Lorene Klinge, and Lucille Kies.
She was proceeded in death by her brother, Arnold (MaryLou) Voigts and sister, Irma Schambow; brothers-in-law: Leo Klinge and Elton Kies; nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville with Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is serving the family.
