CASSVILLE – Thomas Edward Zwicker, age 78, of Cassville, formerly of Monroe, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on December 2, 1946, in Monroe, the son of Edward and Marian (Klemm) Zwicker. Thomas attended Monroe Schools. He served his country in the United States National Guard.

Tom was a very talented wood craftsman and spent his professional life honing that skill. He was the owner/operator of Amity Furniture Stripping in Monroe for the majority of his working years. His craft allowed him to restore priceless family heirlooms, ensuring enjoyment for generations to come. Whether restoring a classic wooden chair or crafting a custom-made roll-top desk, Tom approached each project with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for quality craftsmanship, leaving behind something tangible and enduring, a reflection of his dedication to the art of creation and restoration.

Tom’s passion for hunting developed at a young age, deeply rooted in his connection to the outdoors. His early experiences hunting with family and close friends instilled a sense of pride and responsibility, and it became a way for him to bond with those he cared about while learning about the delicate balance of wildlife and conservation. Over the years, what started as a youthful interest evolved into a lifelong passion. His respect for the animals he hunted and the ecosystems they inhabited grew with each passing year, and it was clear that hunting wasn’t merely an activity for Tom, but a passion he’d carry with him for the rest of his life.

As his passion for conservation grew, Tom enjoyed his time serving the Ducks Unlimited organization. He rose through the ranks from local to state to national and found great fulfillment in working alongside like-minded individuals who shared his passion for conservation and wildlife. The opportunity to contribute to such an important cause, especially in shaping policies and programs that directly impacted local habitats, brought him immense pride. He always spoke fondly of the connections he made with fellow volunteers and the sense of camaraderie that came with being part of an organization dedicated to preserving waterfowl populations. For him, it wasn’t just about the work—it was about making a lasting difference for future generations of both wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts.

Later in life, Tom developed a deep appreciation for the Lakota Indian tribe, their rich history, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations. He admired their deep connection to the land, their spiritual practices, and the resilience they’ve shown throughout history. One aspect of Lakota culture that particularly fascinated him was the art of bead making. He was captivated by the intricate designs, vibrant colors, and the cultural significance behind each beadwork pattern. He spent hours sitting at his table creating beautiful pouches he would then present with great pride to friends and family. He also enjoyed chipping arrowheads and making beautiful dream catchers.

Survivors include: daughter Amy Zwicker of Blanchardville, WI; daughter Angie Zwicker of Belleville, WI; sister Nancy (Tom) Wallschlaeger of Door County, WI; sister Susan (Paul) Frenzel of Brooklyn, WI; brother Jeffrey (Kristy) Zwicker of Argyle, WI; his faithful canine companion, Hunter; and several nieces and nephews.
