Thomas E. Cherrier, age 78, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in Colorado. He was born on May 23, 1938, in Lancaster, the son of Earl and Irene (Saengilng) Cherrier. After graduating from Lancaster High School, he furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Platteville, receiving a Bachelor of Science and graduated from the University of Minnesota Minneapolis with a Master's of Science degree in Mining Engineering. Tom was employed with several mining companies in Colorado, but went to various countries checking out the quality of their mines, Germany and Canada, among them. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965. Tom was a member of Leadville BPOE(Elks)Lodge, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Parish, Member on the Board of Directors for the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, and member of the Society of Mining Engineering. Until recent years, he enjoyed playing softball, golf and keeping up family and friends.
Survivors include many cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marge (Zenz); his brothers: Lynn and Timothy; beloved aunt, Catherine Cherrier (Merle) Graney.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
