Thomas A. Lyons, Sr., age 68 passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA, after a long courageous battle with cancer and chronic health issues. Tom enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served his country proudly. He was also an active member of the Marine Corps League Dubuque Detachment 101. Tom married Eva A. Stohlmeyer on February 1, 1975. He was employed with A.Y. McDonald, Morrison Bros., Ertl, Dickeyville BP and the zoning administrator for Potosi and Tennyson. Tom was a member of SS. Andrew Thomas Catholic Church, and its Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Surviving is his loving wife of 38 years Eva, their children, Melanie (Michael) Wong, Stephanie (Michael) Small, Joseph (Jaclyn), James (September), Michael (Amber), and Thomas Lyons, Jr., 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his brother Frank (Karen), and sister in law Virginia Lyons, nieces, nephews and many members of the Stohlmeyer family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Fae (Strong) Lyons, brothers Roy, Donald and Floyd Jr., brother in laws, Paul Stohlmeyer, Ed Wiezorek, and a sister in law Betty Powers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 10:30 am. at St Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, with Fr. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors was in the church cemetery. Friends called of Friday, June 28, 2013 from 4 to 8 pm. and on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Potosi is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers a Thomas Lyons memorial fund has been established.
We wish to extend our thanks to U of I Hospitals and Clinics, Dubuque Internal Medicine, Unity Health Care, Dr. Parekh and his nurse Joan, and those who have provided health care to Tom.
