Sylvia D. Elwell

 Sylvia D. Elwell, age 94, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Lancaster Care Center. She was born on December 21, 1917, the daughter of John and Belva (Dodge) Allbee. Sylvia was united in marriage to Frank Elwell in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1950. Sylvia was employed at a beauty salon, owned and operated the Minute Lunch, cooked for the bowling alley, and operated the Rainbow Grill. In 1965, she moved to Madison where she was employed at the Veterans Hospital. She retired after fourteen years of service and moved to Florida. Sylvia later returned to Dubuque, Iowa, and in 2007, moved back to Lancaster. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, spruce trees, fishing, sewing, and collecting porcelain dolls.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray, John, Thomas and Frank; sisters, Nellie, Viola, and Lillian; and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces, great-great-great nephews, and a Godchild, Kassi (Taylor) White.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
