Susan M. (Huser) McCartney, age 56, of Onalaska, formerly of Bagley, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at Mulder Health Care Center in West Salem. She was born on July 6, 1953, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Lawrence and Geraldine (Stram) Huser. Susan attended grade school in Bagley, St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien and graduated from West Grant High School in May of 1971. On September 18, 1971, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Harry E. McCartney at St. John's Catholic Church in Patch Grove. To this union, three little angels were born, Scott (1973), Yvette (Oct. 9-Oct. 10 1974), and Regina (June 7, 1976 - August 1976). She became the mother of a special little boy from South Korea named Christopher Hwan in 1985. Sue loved life and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She volunteered at LaCrosse Lutheran and worked at Ray-O-Vac in Fennimore and McDonald's in Onalaska until her illness prevented her activities.
Survivors include her husband, Harry McCartney, Onalaska; their son, Christopher (Jenny) McCartney, LaCrosse; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Kayli; her step-mother, Mary Metcalfe Huser, Bloomington; sisters-in-law: Raleen (Fay) Schnitzler, Bagley; Laurayne (Lonny) Fischer, Boscobel; Jolinda (Robert) Waterman, Boscobel; Norma (Kevin) Weidemann, Prairie du Chien; Susan McCartney, Mt. Hope; brother-in-law, Vernon McCartney, Osseo; several nieces and nephews; her uncles: Gerald (Lorraine) Stram, Clifford (Barb) Stram, Clem (Jackie) Stram, all of Prairie du Chien; her aunts: Marilyn (Joe) Huser, Bagley; Helen Huser-French, Green Bay; two step-brothers and a step-sister: Henry Huser, formerly of Bagley; William Huser, Prairie du Chien; and Mary Huser, formerly of Bagley.
Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, three children: Scott, Yvette, and Regina, and her mother and father-in-law, Vernon and Leona McCartney.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Patch Grove with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was at a later date. Family and friends called on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.
