Stuart G. Urban

May 29, 1940 — April 28, 2024

Lancaster

Stuart G. Urban, age 83, of Lancaster, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, after a multi-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Stu was born on May 29, 1940 in Wausau, Wisconsin, the only child of Arnold and Frances Urban.  He attended public school in Rothschild and junior and senior high school at DC Everest.

At age 12, in 8th grade, Stu met 7th grader Marilyn J. Babl and it was, as he always stated, love at first sight.  They were high school sweethearts, Stu the track star and Marilyn the homecoming queen.  Stu graduated from high school in 1958 and attended the UW Marathon County Extension Center for two years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin.

Stu and Marilyn married on September 8, 1962 and settled in Madison for Stu’s last two years of law school.  Stu combined his senior year of college with his first year of law school and after graduating from law school in 1964, Stu and Marilyn moved to Lancaster where Stu joined the law firm of McIntyre and Kinney, and he and Marilyn built a wonderful life.  As a young married couple, they enjoyed playing golf, canoeing, playing bridge and traveling when possible.

In 1970, they welcomed daughter Sara and two years later they welcomed son Steve, and their family was complete.  Stu’s law practice took off with him specializing in estate planning and business/farm incorporation.  He became partner and the firm was eventually renamed Kinney and Urban.

Stu, Marilyn, Sara and Steve made many wonderful memories traveling, camping, and attending sporting events, especially UW men’s hockey games.  Stu also enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and golfing with his many Lancaster friends and his numerous brothers-in-law-become friends, particularly his annual fishing trip to Canada.

In later years, after completing a successful 50+ year legal career and becoming empty nesters, Stu and Marilyn enjoyed more traveling, including their annual trip to Orange Beach, Alabama, trips to Colorado to visit Marilyn’s brother, Aaron, trips to Branson, Missouri with friends, sightseeing road trips around the country and most importantly summers at their cottage on Manson Lake in Tomahawk, Wisconsin with their children and their beautiful and much adored grandchildren.

Stu is survived by the love of his life, Marilyn, children Sara (Bret Atkinson) Urban and Steve (Sarah) Urban and grandchildren, Samantha Urban, Eric Urban and Kathryn Urban.  He is further survived by Marilyn’s siblings and their spouses, Laurie Johnston, Aaron Babl, Jessie Zoromski, Dave (Joni) Babl, Julie (Pat) Steffeck, Gary (Kathy) Babl and Pam (Jim) Schroeter as well numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Frances, his in-laws, Lawrence and Regina Babl, his sister-in-law Linda Babl and his brothers-in-law David Zoromski and Bill Johnston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, WI, with Father Steve Brunner officiating.   Family and friends may visit Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  A lunch will follow in the church dining hall.  Burial will be at later date in the Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau, WI.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Stuart G. Urban Memorial Fund has been established.  Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
