Shirley I. Sweeney, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at her home in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 24, 1934, in North Lancaster Township, the daughter of Henry and Lela (Bass) Rech. In 1952, Shirley graduated from Lancaster High School. She was employed as an administrative secretary with the Lancaster School system for eighteen years. On December 28, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Harold R. Sweeney in Dubuque, IA. She furthered her education at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. Shirley was employed with Lancaster State Bank for six months before working for Grant County as a Deputy Clerk until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed reading and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and was always available for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband, Harold Sweeney, Lancaster; her children: LuAnn (Steve) Hogler, Green Bay; Jill (Allen) Kvitek, Maribel; Kelly (Jeff) Clark, Appleton; her mother, Lela Rech, Lancaster; seven grandchildren; her brother and sisters: Dorothy Eck, Roger Rech, Linda Barr, Marcia (Dan) Mitchell, all of Lancaster; Sharon (Steve) Klein, Cassville; foreign exchange student, Anne (Philippe) Crousle`, Paris, France; other relatives and many friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, her daughter, Lori, and her brothers, Charles and Stephen Rech.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.
