Shirley R. Wegmuller, age 76, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. She was born on July 30, 1940, in Bloomington, the daughter of Peter and Rose (Herbers) Breuer. Shirley graduated from Bloomington High School and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where she earned a bachelor degree in teaching. Shirley was employed as a teacher in Burlington, later Bloomington Schools and finally River Ridge school district, retiring in 2009 after teaching for 36 years. She loved her grandchildren and doted on them every chance she had. Shirley enjoyed coloring, reading, gardening, word search and cross word puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling and had a love of animals.
Survivors include her grandson, Blake Wegmuller; two honorary grandchildren: Allison and Sawyer Bark; a daughter-in-law, JoAnne (James) Wegmuller-Bark; three aunts: Dorothy "Dort" Mumm, Florence Herbers and Catherine (Bob) Horne; five nieces; her brother-in-law, Larry Kubiak; her beloved dog, Snickers; many cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Jim Wegmuller; a sister, Patricia Kubiak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends may call on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, where a 4:30 p.m. scripture service will be prayed. Friends may also call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Shirley R. Wegmuller Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory is entrusted with her services.
