Shelby D. Freymiller, age 87, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. He was born on December 11, 1926, in Marion Township, the son of Christof F. and Marie (Kasper) Freymiller. After his father passed away when he was seven, Shelby moved to his grandparent
s farm in Liberty Ridge Township and later moved to Lancaster. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1944. In 1946, Shelby was drafted into the United States Air Corps, now known as the United States Air Force.He traveled to Japan during his year of service. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for over twenty-seven years. Shelby was a longtime dedicated member of the Bethlehem E&R Church in Lancaster. A lifelong baseball fanatic, he enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and visited most Major League ball parks around the country. Also an exceptionally gifted singer and guitar player (among several other instruments), Shelby brought joy to countless individuals by entertaining at numerous area nursing homes and care centers for many years, both with partners and alone. He also participated in league bowling and demonstrated a remarkable acuity for crossword puzzles. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds.
Survivors include his son, Lyn Freymiller; step-children: Tim (Donna) Fruit; Jill (George) Marin; his dear friends, Virgil and Janet Berndt.

will be also be dearly missed by Elisha Marin, Suzie Marin, Amanda Fruit, and Andrea Fruit.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy, and his siblings Norma Hufstedler, Keith, Eldeen Cunningham, and Gilbert.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem E&R Church with Pastor Mark Dieter officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore. Friends called from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
