Sara L. Popp

Sunday, February 16, 2025, Sara Lorena Popp, passed away peacefully at the age of 102. Sara was born at home near New Diggings, Wis on November 9, 1922. She married the love of her life, Herbert Popp February 19, 1943. He preceded her in death March 4th, 1991. They celebrated their California wedding dancing to a live Lawrence Welk performance. Herbie served in the army during WWII, where he was injured and lost the use of his legs. He returned home to many months in the hospital where Sara stayed by his side, nursed him and carried him out upon his release. Though they would never dance again, Sara was always by Herbie’s side, a proud and loving wife. Together they had 3 children and built a family home in Belmont where Sara lived for 60 years. Together Sara and Herb took their children and then their grandchildren on trips across the country. Sara was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Belmont Methodist Church. After Herbie’s death, Sara made 5 trips to Australia to visit family. Sara moved to Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee when she sold her home in 2010. Sara’s life was greatly enriched by the extraordinary, loving care she received when she lived with her son Rod and his wife Milli. She has been living in the Morrow Home Community in Sparta, WI since Dec. 2022.

Sara leaves behind three children: Diane Hahn of Lodi, Rod (Milli) Popp of Onalaska, and Greg Popp of Pewaukee; four grandchildren: Suzanne (Chris) Weber of Menomonee Falls, Angela Blount of Waukesha, Nels (Stephanie) Popp of Chapel Hill, NC, and Rachel (Jason) Hill of Cairns, Qld. Australia; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; a son-in-law, Bill Hahn and her 5 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. Family and friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
