Ruth M. Metcalf

Ruth M. Metcalf, age 85, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Lancaster, WI, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born December 3, 1932 the daughter of Ralph and Loretta (Esser) Trumm. On September 24, 1951, she married Norman E. Metcalf at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven, WI. They farmed together on the Metcalf family farm in Glen Haven Township. After retirement, her and Norman both worked at Lands’ End in Dodgeville. She was a faithful member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. In her free time, Ruth volunteered at Grant Regional Health Center, and enjoyed playing Farkle, painting, and golfing. She participated in the Red Hat Society and also liked to travel. Ruth especially loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandson.

Ruth is survived by two sons: Bill (Lori) Metcalf and David (Donna) Metcalf; five grandchildren: Eric (Cindy), Lynn, Tyler, Ian and Sean; a great-grandson, Collin; siblings: Joanne Krausman, John (Jane) Trumm, and Sandra (Tom) Read; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Trumm and Margie (Stuart) Chase; many nieces and nephews; and her little doggy, Buddy.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in 2005; her daughter, Jeanne Wood, in 1989; two brothers: William (Jeannie) Trumm and Roger Trumm; and a brother-in-law, Richard Krausman.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Fr. William Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church, where a 9:15 a.m. prayer service will be held. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Ruth M. Metcalf Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with her services.
