Ruth I. Sisley

Ruth I. Sisley, age 88, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. She was born on February 21, 1929, in North Lancaster Township, the daughter of John E. and Velma (Hayes) Vesperman. Ruth attended grades one through eight at the Dyer School and graduated from Fennimore High School in 1946. She worked as a switchboard operator at the Fennimore Telephone Company until her marriage to Cletus A. "Si" Sisley on June 12, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Ruth later worked at the D&D Store and then the Lancaster Nursing Home as a CNA. Ruth was a member of the first CNA graduating class from Southwest Technical College. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and crossword puzzles. Ruth was a hard worker and liked to keep busy.
Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years, Cletus "Si" Sisley; two sons: Jeffrey (Lorelea) Sisley, Platteville; Steven (Marsha) Sisley, Lancaster; two grandchildren: Shanon (Barry) Mergen and Shawn Sisley, all of Lancaster; four great-grandchildren: Brandon and Abigail Mergen and Alison and Ashton Sisley; her siblings: Hazel Straka, Dodgeville; Stella Blair, Fremont; Archie Vesperman, Lancaster; Lyle Vesperman, Boscobel; sister-in-law, Bev Cox-Sisley, Granbury, TX; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings: Clarion Vesperman, Marion (Robert) Welsh, Elsie (Dale) Bryhan, Percy (Jessie) Vesperman, Bernice (Mike) Moran; brothers-in-law, Joe Straka, Harold Blair, Robert (Wilma) Sisley, and Stanley (Myra) Sisley; and a sister-in-law, Cleone (Burnell) Edge.
Funeral services will be on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
