Ruth E. Stanton, age 84, of Lancaster, died on Monday, May 18, 2009, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on September 23, 1924, in Platteville, the daughter of Clarence and Minnie (Specht) Schuster. On March 6, 1944, Ruth was united in marriage to Donald E. Stanton at First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. After their marriage, the couple farmed in South Lancaster Township for over twenty-five years. Ruth and Donald loved spending time fishing on the river at their cabin in Jays Landing in Bagley. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster, where she taught Sunday school. Ruth was also a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary and enjoyed reading. She dearly loved spending time with her family and their activities.
Survivors include her five children: Sandra (Robert) Bowen, Wausau; Vicki (Bill) Bass, Lancaster; Deborah (David) Schmoekel, Platteville; Gary (Michele) Stanton, Lancaster; Kevin (Debi Perkins) Stanton, Cuba City; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her sister: Betty Sweet, Bagley; her brother: George (Marlene) Schuster, Kieler; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Ila Schuster, Platteville; and a brother-in-law, Mandel Funk, Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald in 2005, her sister, Mildred Funk, her brother, Harold Schuster, and a brother-in-law, Carl Sweet.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Private family burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, where a 4:00 p.m. VFW Womens Auxiliary Service will be held. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Ruth E. Stanton memorial fund has been established.
