Ruth Ann Terwilliger

Ruth Ann Bailey Terwilliger, age 98, passed into eternal peace on August 30, 2013, joining her husband, Emmett Sr, son, Charles, and granddaughter, Lexy. She was born on February 8, 1915, in Potosi Township. Ruth Ann graduated from Lancaster High School and the University of Wisconsin. During her college years, Ruth Ann became a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Zeta Phi Eta and continued to be an active alumna for over seventy-five years. Also while at the University, she was a member of a revitalized women's crew team. Miss Bailey taught high school English in Black River Falls until she married E. W. Terwilliger on June 7, 1941. After the war, Ruth Ann, her husband and young son, Emmett Jr, settled in Lancaster, Wisconsin. For many years, Ruth Ann and her husband spent winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ruth Ann was active in many community organizations as a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Lancaster Hospital Auxiliary, Lancaster Garden Club, Catherine Eaton Circle and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Ruth Ann was a member of the first Girl Scout troop in Lancaster, and later in life, she served as troop leader for over ten years. Ruth Ann enjoyed attending and serving her church and was a 75 year member of the Lancaster Congregational Church. Family was very important to Ruth Ann. She shared her home and holidays with generations of family and friends. She was an excellent gardener, enjoyed a challenging game of bridge, and played an impressive round of golf well into her senior years.She was a caring and giving person who touched many lives.

Ruth Ann is survived by her children, Emmett (Carol) and MaryAnn (Todd Anderson); and her grandchildren, Emily (Justin Zampardi), Andrew, and Molly and two great-grandsons, Bailey and Vinny Zampardi.

Please join us in celebrating Ruth Ann's life on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. A luncheon will follow the service in the church center. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given in Ruth Anns name to the Schreiner Memorial Library Foundation, 113 W. Elm, Lancaster. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
