Russell W. Jones, age 80, of Potosi, died on Monday, May 23, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. He was born on December 3, 1930, in Mineral Point, the son of Roy and Lavern (Crapp) Jones. Russell graduated from Rewey High School. On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty A. Schoenauer at Davies Memorial Church in Potosi. Russell was employed at Dubuque John Deere Works for thirty-one years. He served as a volunteer on the Potosi Rescue Squad and Fire Department for many years. Russell was a lifelong member of Davies Memorial Church in Potosi, where he held several offices. He was also a member of the Potosi Lions Club. Russell enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Betty Jones, Potosi; children: Barb (Randy) Patzner, Stillman Valley, IL; Donna (Allan) Curtis, Potosi; Sandy (Tim) Wiest, Fennimore; Rick (Joanne) Jones, Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronnie (Myrtle) Jones, Frankfort, KY; Leroy (Marlene) Jones, Platteville; and one sister: Gaye Peacock, Hazel Green.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by three sisters: Evelyn, Corrine, and Linda; and one brother, Nelson.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Davies Memorial Church in Potosi with Pastor Petra Streiff officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Russell W. Jones Memorial Fund has been established.
