Russell A. Metcalfe, age 85, of Cassville, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016, at his home. He was born on January 12, 1931, in Cassville, the son of Ray and Lil (Walz) Metcalfe. Russ grew up in Cassville and graduated from Cassville High School. On March 27, 1951, Russ was united in marriage to Donna Adrian at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. He was drafted and served two years in the United States Marine Corp as a flight radio operator, stationed in California. Russ and Donna returned to Cassville where he resumed his employment at Dairyland Power. He started his career in the coal yard and rose to be the plant manager. Russ retired at the age of 62 in January of 1993. After retirement he went to work in "Russ's Mighty Fine Workshop" and for the next 23 years, he kept busy with his woodworking projects. He crafted cedar chests, picture frames, bean bag games and furniture.

Among the many lives Russ touched were the students at the middle school where he volunteered to build boats. On Thursday nights you could find Russ facilitating the Cassville AA Meetings where he sponsored many members. Russ was also a member of the Historical Society, Volunteer Fire Department, and Cassville Village Board for eight years. He was very active in the Cassville Community.

Survivors include his loving wife Donna, of 65 years; their four children: Pam (Roy) Moseley, McFarland; Jan (Clinton Labossiere) Mayne, Portage; Cara (Jerry Manning) Felt, Sun Prairie; Doug (Gloria) Metcalfe, Perry, GA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; along with many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Metcalfe; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by an infant son, David; and a brother, Bob Metcalfe.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Private family burial with military honors was in Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made to the Cassville Fire Department and Rescue Squad in memory of Russell A. Metcalfe. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
