Russell L. Schnepper, age 81, of Platteville, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. Russ was born on December 19, 1931, in Olney, IL, the son of Roy and Evelyn (Shipley) Schnepper. He graduated from the University of Illinois Veterinarian College in 1959. Russ practiced veterinarian medicine in Grant County, Wisconsin, for fifty-four years. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. Russ was a member of the Jaycees and raced his own horses in harness races. He flew his own plane. Russ loved golfing and traveling. He visited over fifty countries on six continents.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-four years, Joan Schnepper; twelve children: Kim (Jim) Ligon, Tuscaloosa, AL; Lori (Walter) Myers, Lenoir, NC; Ann (Randy) Christopherson, Green Bay; Erin Schnepper, Toronto, Canada; Lisa (Scott) Schnepper, Winona, MN; Amy (Lou) Kapp, Olney, IL; Daniel Schnepper, Hudson; Darin (Colleen) Schnepper, Lancaster; Cassandra Schnepper, Park City, IL; David (Connie) Schaut, Houston, TX: Tracy Schaut, Platteville; and Noah (Tiffany) Schnepper, Lancaster; twenty grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gordon (Marlene) Schnepper and John (Judy) Schnepper, all of Olney, IL; one sister, Trilla Richardson, Lakeland, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Fritchle and an infant brother, Roy Clifton Schnepper.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church with Pastor Mark Dieter officiating. Family and friends called on Friday, May 31, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
