Roy H. Hying, age 102, of Bagley, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at his home. He was born on August 24, 1909, in Texas, the son of John and Catherine Hying. His family moved to Wisconsin by covered wagon. Roy entered the United States Army in 1942 and served his country during World War II stationed in the Pacific, where he earned nine service medals. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he moved to Dubuque, IA. In 1955, Roy moved to the farm in Bagley, where he has farmed until his retirement in 1990. He was an easy going man who enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his sister, Alice Hefel, Cheryl, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Johnny, Maude, Josephine, Lila, George, Frances and Mary.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 12:00 noon at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors was on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Brodtville Cemetery, Wyalusing Township. Family and friends called on Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
