Rose Ella Ehlen, age 96, of Potosi, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on August 19, 1911, in Bay Robert Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of Elisha and Lillian (White) Earle. She came to the United States in 1929. Rose lived in New York and was employed as a housekeeper and nanny for two boys. On November 3, 1943, Rose was united in marriage to Clarence A. Pete Ehlen in New York. After their marriage, the couple moved to rural Potosi where they farmed for about forty years. Upon retirement, the couple moved into Potosi. Rose was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She loved to play cards and have fish frys with family and friends. Rose also loved playing Bingo, making crafts, knitting, and crocheting. She had a green thumb and a big garden.
Survivors include her four children: Clarence Ehlen, Mary (Jim) Haas, Joe (Joan) Ehlen, and Ray (Sue) Ehlen, all of Potosi; 13 grandchildren: Todd (Sandy) Ehlen, Tim (Marissa) Ehlen, Shari (Jim) Mergen, Sheila (Mike) McKillip; Shelby (Aarin) Schaefer, Joe (Dawn) Haas, Beth (Kevin) Flesch, Tom (Sonia) Haas, Amy (friend Tim) Haas, Josh (Kerri) Ehlen, Jarda, Kacie, and Kyi Ehlen; 21 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandson; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on December 15, 1992; a grandson, Michael Haas, and one brother, John Earle.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Bernard Rott officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Friends called on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi and from 1:00 p.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
