Roger L. Rech, age 79, of Lancaster, WI, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at his home. Roger was born May 28,1939 in Beetown Township, the son of Lela (Bass) and Henry Rech. Roger graduated from Lancaster High School in 1956. He attended college for a year, followed by serving two years in the US Army. Roger married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Morrow, on October 4, 1958. Together they dairy farmed in Little Grant Township.
Roger was a member of the National Honor Society, won top male in the 4-H speaking contest, earned the 4-H Key Award, and received the Mental Health Citizen of the Year Award in 1974. He believed in giving his time to help his community and was a ten year adult 4-H leader, Southwest Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association member, Grant Electric Board Member, and Little Grant Township Treasurer.
Roger was very proud of his family and is survived by his seven children: Rick (Linda), Lancaster, Ronnie, Lancaster, Mary (Steve) Ash, Middleton, Kathy (Jim) Golding, Manitowoc, Jim (Jolene), Lancaster, Jeff (Emily), Verona and Jodi (Chris) Mayne, Onalaska; thirteen grandchildren: Brian (Tabitha) Rech, Sarah (Randy) Stewart, Brad (Sally) Rech and Kari (Jake) Schmitz, Matthew and Kristie Ash, Nathan (Krista) and Rob Golding, Renee, Ryan and Alex Rech, Taliya and Jaela Mayne; and ten great-grandchildren: Brady and Brielle Schmitz, Emma, Abby, Lily and John Rech, Garrett and Josie Rech, Harrison Stewart and Jamie Golding.
Roger is further survived by his sisters Dorothy Eck, Linda Barr (Arvin Weber), Marcia (Dan) Mitchell, Sharon (Steve) Klein, and in-laws Harold Sweeney, Ardis Kasper, Phyllis (Burdette) Pagenkopf, Kathryn (Francis) Pluemer and LaVon Morrow as well as many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife on October 19, 2004, his parents, his in-laws Archie and Genevieve Morrow, siblings Charles (Shirley) Rech, Shirley Sweeney, Steve (Sue) Rech, and in-laws Stanley Eck, Bill Barr, Marjorie (Cletus) Ohlert, Myrna (George) Starrett, John Kasper, Virgil Morrow, Ivan (Marion) Morrow, Lyle Morrow, and Leonard (Darlene) Morrow.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Weaver officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may visit the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund has been established to benefit local charities.
