Roger C. Pagel

LANCASTER – Roger C. Pagel, age 87, of Lancaster, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Lancaster Health Services. He was born February 2, 1935, the son of Edwin and Verna (Jerrett) Pagel.

He is survived by his wife: Ann; their daughters: Jacqueline (Dave) White, Deb (Vernon) Vesperman, and Rochelle Pagel; his grandchildren: Brooke Pagel, Sierra Pagel (Daughters of James), Lauren (Brian Fastner) Pink, Meredith Pink (Daughters of Rochelle), and Clayton Vesperman (Son of Deb and Vernon).

Roger was preceded in death by his son: James; his parents: Edwin and Verna, and his eight siblings.

Roger graduated from Lancaster High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of SP 3 and was honorably discharged. On October 22, 1956, Roger was united in marriage to Anastasia F. O’Brien at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. He was employed as a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works, Dubuque, Iowa, for over 34 years. Throughout his life, Roger enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, and gardening. He looked forward to traveling to Alaska to visit and hunt with his son Jim. Winters were spent in Texas with his wife Ann “RVing.” Roger dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. The cherished memories of camping at Coon Fork Lake, will be remembered by his children and grandchildren always. Papa will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed. Roger was loved by all who knew him.

In keeping with Roger’s wishes, there will be a private family celebration of life with military honors at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Mt. Hope Township. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the compassion shown to Roger and his family from the staff at Lancaster Health Services, Grant Regional Health Center, St. Croix Hospice, and Lancaster EMS.
