Robert W. Griswold

Robert W "Bob" Griswold, age 96, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison. He was born April 10, 1924 on the Griswold family farm in North Lancaster Township, the son of Leonard and Eva (Leighty) Griswold. He attended Pine Knob rural school and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1942. On January 27, 1945, he married Mary I. Govier. After their marriage, Bob and Mary farmed the Griswold family farm where he became the fourth generation to live there. Bob was the town clerk for North Lancaster Township. He was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, Merry Mixers 4-H club, where he served as a leader, and a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows for over 70 years. Bob played softball for the Horses team for 18 years. He also was a U S postal rural mail carrier for over 21 years.
Surviving are his children: Jerry (Jean) Griswold, Susan (John) Maresh, and Cindy (Earl) Heimerdinger; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; a sister: Dorothy Wetter; a brother-in-law: Donald "Sleepy" Hauth, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary, two sisters: Patricia "Pat" Hauth, and Ada (Maynard "Barney") Sanger, and a brother-in-law: Harold Wetter.
A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. There will be no formal public visitation. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
