Robert Pierce, age 93, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Robert was born October 31, 1923, in Potosi Township the son of Leonard and Hannah (Koeller) Pierce. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Wieland on June 19, 1947. Together they farmed for 48 years in Waterloo Township where they raised their four sons: Norbert, Donald, Ronald, and Darwin. Robert was a very humble, hardworking man who had a love for the outdoors. If he wasnt in the field making hay or planting the crops, you could usually find him on the bank of the river fishing, hunting, playing cards, bingo, or going to the casino. He always had a smile on his face.
Robert is survived by his sisters: Marie Stoney, Louise Koelker, Genelda Krafjack and Helen (Norman) Hoffman. His four sons: Norbert (Arlene) Wieland of Potosi, Donald (Virginia) of Grundy Center IA, Ronald (Marilyn) of Potosi and Darwin (Betty) of Potosi. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Michelle Schmitz, Michael Wieland, Curtis Wieland, Chad Wieland, David Pierce, Thomas Pierce, Jennifer( Pierce) Vande-Vooren, Elizabeth Pierce, Bob Pierce, Jamie Pierce, Daniel Pierce and Ryan Pierce; 30 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, a sister Leona Friedman, a brother Leonard Jr. and a grandson Timothy Pierce, brothers-in-law Clarence Stoney, Gale Koelker, and Richard Krafjack.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.
