Robert N. Hartwig

Robert N. Hartwig, age 68, of Auburndale, formerly of Cassville, passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 1, 1944, in Hancock, the son of Emil and Linda (Scharf) Hartwig. On October 22, 1977, Robert was untied in marriage to Kathy Hubbard in Chicago. They lived in Chicago until 1993 when they moved to Cassville. In 2010, they moved to Auburndale so they could be close to his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Robert was employed for thirty and a half years at Great Lakes Corporation in Chicago and seven years at Cuba City Machine. After his retirement, he mowed lawns for the residents of the Village of Cassville. Robert had a passion for hunting, fishing, bowling, woodworking, and fixing anything that no one else could fix. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and sharing deer hunting stories with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hartwig, Auburndale; son, Robert (Katie) Hartwig, Arpin; grandson, Curtis Hartwig, Arpin; his mother, Linda Swartzbaugh; sister-in-law, Betty (Norm) Guild, Cuba City; his aunts: Annie Laport, Hancock; Janet (Jim) Wright, Sheboygan Falls; Vini Bohn, Wild Rose; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Emil, stepfather, Curtis, his very dear uncle, Vernon Laport, Sr., and cousin, Vernon Laport, Jr.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial with military honors was held in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
