Robert J. "Bob" Schumacher, age 91, of Potosi, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster. He was born on July 25, 1925, in Potosi, the son of Rudolph and Marie (Mai) Schumacher. Bob graduated from Potosi High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a B-29 Ground Crew member, serving in Guam, Saipan and Tinian from 1944 until 1946. On May 6, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Rosemary Berg at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. He was on the Potosi Fire and Rescue Squad for over 30 years, worked as the Potosi Brewery Bottling House Supervisor for 26 years, until the brewery closed in 1972. Bob then worked at John Deere until his retirement in 1988. He was a devoted member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi, opening and locking the doors for 18 years. Bob was a lifetime member of the Berg Averkamp VFW Post No. 5276 of Potosi. He was a wonderful husband and father. Bob enjoyed spending time with his wife fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed family gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Rosemary; their sons: Roger Schumacher, Marshfield; Dennis (Kathy) Schumacher, Monmouth, IL; 4 grandchildren: Brett (Megan) Schumacher, Kari (Andrew) Moede, Vanessa (Drew) Witherell, and Monica Schumacher; 4 great-grandchildren: Parker Schumacher, Luca Schumacher, Ben Moede, and Taylee Witherell; two sisters: Rosemary Markus, Potosi; Rita Frommelt, Cedar Rapids, IA; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Charles, son, Thomas, and his mother and father-in-law, Ed and Mag Berg.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, November 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be offered to the Potosi Fire Department or the Potosi Rescue Squad. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Potosi is serving the family.
