Robert E. "Bob" Eckert

January 7, 1930 — June 15, 2021

Robert E. “Bob” Eckert Sr, age 91, of Mount Hope passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. He was born January 7, 1930 in Midland, South Dakota, the son of Joseph and Cleone (Wachter) Eckert. Bob attended Millville rural school. He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Catherine E. Moravits on September 15, 1953. Bob farmed and logged in the Millville area. He owned and operated The Iron Horse Bar in Woodman. After the bar burned, he rebuilt, and it became The Broken Spur. Bob later worked for Kussmal Seed Corn Company. He was a member of Gray-Wachter-Murphy American Legion Post 229 of Mt. Hope. Bob served on the Grant County Board of Supervisors and was also a Supervisor and Chairman of Millville Township. He enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds, growing pumpkins, and a good game of cards.
Surviving are his children: Bob (Jackie) Eckert Jr of Woodman, Phillip James Eckert of Millville, Gail (Pete) Langmeier of Millville, Nick Eckert of Millville, and Luann (Jered) Glass of Bagley; a foster son, Leon “Poncho” Wright of Millville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; his siblings: Chuck (Nancy) Eckert, Betty Wetter, Mary Bremmer, and Bonnie (Tom) Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was proceeded in death by his sister, Alice Jones; his brother, Joe Eckert; two brothers-in-law: Don Wetter and John Bremmer.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington. Military honors will be held at 12:00 pm noon at the Legion Memorial in Mount Hope Park. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
