LANCASTER – Richard W. Fiedler, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was born on January 26, 1932, in Worthington, IA, the son of Edward and Olive (Pross) Fiedler. Richard attended Fennimore Schools. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and was stationed in Baltimore, where he met the love of his life Eileen. Richard served his country until his honorable discharge in 1955. On February 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Eileen Price. After their marriage, the couple moved to Lancaster and raised a family. Richard was employed at Dubuque Pack in maintenance for forty years, retiring in 1997. He then worked for the Lancaster Schools and Pamida. Richard enjoyed square dancing with Eileen, hunting and fishing. He always put his family first and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren. Richard also loved a good Brandy Old Fashion. He had a witty sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. Richard was a proud member of the Local Union 758 International Operating Engineers, the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster and St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster.
Survivors include his loving wife, Eileen; their children: Eileen (Roger) Straka, Bagley; Linda (Jorge) Munevar, Wichita, KS; Nicholas (LeeAnn) Fiedler, Platteville; Christopher (Elise "Bunnie") Fiedler, Atlantic, IA; Patricia (Carl, II) Winkers, Fennimore; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Bernard Fiedler, Lancaster; Mary (Roger) Ellis, Lancaster; his sisters-in-law: Gladys Fiedler, Janesville; Gertrude Fiedler, Platteville; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Brandon Winkers; his siblings: Rosie (Fritz) Sprengelmeyer; Ed and Bill Fiedler; and a sister-in-law, Joan Fiedler.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 12:00 noon at Orchard Manor Nursing Home Chapel with Father William Vernon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Orchard Manor Nursing Home Chapel. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Richard W. Fiedler Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with his care.
