Richard Lee Rice

November 29, 1956 — September 7, 2017

Richard Lee Rice, 60, passed away on September 7th, 2017. He came into this world three months early on November 29th, 1956 to Ronald and June Rice. He was a fighter from the start.
Richard was a spiritual man who loved life. He was a kind and funny soul who loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He had fond boyhood memories of living at Borchardt’s, being a summer farmhand and camping and boating on the Mississippi River. He spent his senior year in South Africa as an AFS student and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1975.
He loved to read, go camping and listen to Country Western music. He was a history buff, who read every sign he saw, asked tons of questions and had a lifelong interest in astronomy and travel. He would never turn down dessert (or food of any kind) and liked to take his grandkids out for ice cream. Spending time with his family and grandkids brought much joy to his life.
He worked as a Drywall Taper and Finisher most of his life and was part of the Carpenters Union and the Painters Local 781 Union in Milwaukee, from which he retired after 19 years. He was active in Cub Scouts with both of his sons.
He enjoyed spending his weekends rummaging and antiquing with his girlfriend, Debbie Zimmerman. He supported his favorite team, the Milwaukee Brewers, and attended as many games as he could with friends and family. Richard came in this world early and left it way too early as well. All of us will miss him dearly.
Survived by his mother June Rice, Sister Carol Moore and Brother Tom (Pam) Rice. His Ex-Wife Susan Rice and mother to his children Jayna (Matt) Isberner, Hanna Rice, Devin (Samy) Rice and stepson Tyler Hallman. He was gifted six beautiful grandchildren Abby, Dylan, Owen, Henley, Leo and Fynn along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Ronald Rice, grandparents, Aunt Rose Ann Witzel, Brother-in-law Dave Moore, Uncle Bill Rice and Aunt Dianne Rice.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington, WI. The interment of ashes at Hermitage Cemetery in Mt. Hope, WI, will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are greatly appreciated.
