Richard L. Bloodsworth, Sr., age 84, of Potosi, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at his home. He was born on February 12, 1937, in Albia, IA, the son of Fred and Grace (Dicks) Bloodsworth. Richard graduated from Albia High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country stateside. On September 1, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Rosemary Lower. He was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad in signal maintenance, retiring in 1998. Richard was a member of the Calvary Community Church in Lancaster. He enjoyed gardening, telling stories of his railroad days, and was an avid Iowa sports fan. Richard was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rosemary; a son, Ross; a daughter-in-law, Heather Bloodsworth; a grandson, Joshua; a sister, Shirley (Joe) Ferraro.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard, Jr., a daughter Wendy and a son, Robin in infancy.
Private family services will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster with Pastor David Arevalo officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Richard L. Bloodsworth Memorial Fund has been established.
