Richard John Slater

LANCASTER – Richard J. Slater, age 79, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at his home in Baraboo. He was born on March 20, 1940, in Lancaster, the son of Roy and Josephine (Kelly) Slater. Richard was employed for Portable Feed Mill as well as for various farmers. He loved to go camping and spend time with his family and friends. Richard also enjoyed mowing and taking care of the yard.
Survivors include his children: Laura Paukstat; Shirley (Jeremy) Parks; Roger Slater; step-children: Shirley (Don) Kilby; Carol (Bernie) Disch; Linda Kitto; Jeanette Kotte; Mary MCCartney; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings: Delores Burkholder; LaVerne (Ruth) Slater; Barb (William) Zenz; and Shirley Kitelinger.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life, Patricia McCartney; two step-children: Judy Kitto and Paul Fetzek; his siblings: Bobby, Cecil, and Kenneth Slater; Helen Kerkenbush, Betty Pace; in-laws: Leo Kitelinger, David Burkholder, and Robert Kerkenbush.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friend may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
