Richard E. Dick Schollian, age 83, formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, TX, with his son Craig by his side. He will now join his loving wife Barbara in heaven. Richard was born on March 3, 1928 in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Helen (Lundgren) Schollian. Dick was united in marriage to Barbara A. Churchill on May 21, 1949 in Preston, MN.
Dick graduated from Winona High School and soon after enlisted into the US Navy. He drove semi-gas tankers for Indianhead Truck Lines with his father Wayne, before joining Bailey Oil Company. Dick also owned and operated the Dicks Texaco Service Station in Lancaster for many years. Before leaving Lancaster for his home in Texas, he sold insurance for Senior Care Health and other insurance products.
He is survived by his sister Ilene (Fred) Hausler, Wauzeka; his loving children, Craig (Diane) Schollian, Prairie du Sac and Connie (Jeff) Stich, Levittown, PA; two grandchildren, Danielle (Lucio) Pellegrini and Jeffery (Rachel) Stich, Levittown, PA; two great grandchildren Kyleigh and Gianna, which he was to see in September but will now be their guardian angel with great grandma. They will also be watching over their grandson Jeffery who was recently deployed to Iraq.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Barbara on August 29, 2004; his parents, Wayne and Helen Schollian.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Clement Catholic Church, with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in St. Clement Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Clement Catholic Church, and after 9:30 am on Friday morning. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.
