Pauline D. Uppena, age 89, of Cassville, died on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. She was born on January 26, 1922, in Lancaster, the daughter of Delbert and Maude (Henkle) Day. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1940. On September 2, 1947, Pauline was united in marriage to John Uppena. She was employed at Badger Ordnance during World War II as a typist, Parker Penn Co. in Fennimore and twenty-nine years as a guide at Stonefield Historic Site in Cassville. Pauline enjoyed traveling, fishing and a good game of euchre. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Pauline loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Sue (Steve) Pluemer, Potosi; David (Gloria) Uppena, Wausau; Doug (Janet) Uppena, Chesterfield, MO; Steve (Julie) Uppena, Dickeyville; Trish (Robert) Huber, Davenport, IA; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Jerry) Frazier, San Antonio, TX; a brother, Lyle Day, Locust Grove, OK; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, John on September 20, 1988; and two brothers, Howard and Arnold Day.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Msgr. Jim Uppena officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Pauline D. Uppena Memorial Fund has been established.
