Paul B. Thuli

September 7, 1941 — January 27, 2025

Lancaster

Paul Thuli, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his children. On September 7, 1941, “Pauli” entered the world as a cherished “baby brother,” adored by his six older siblings and raised in a home brimming with love and laughter. He grew up in Spring Green, Wisconsin, where his humble beginnings as the child of an immigrant family instilled in him enduring resilience and an unbreakable bond with family. Paul took great pride in his Swiss heritage, cherishing the values that shaped his character and guided his outlook on life.

At the heart of Paul’s journey was an epic love story. For 62 beautiful years, he shared his life with Myrna (Pittz) Thuli, his soulmate. Together, they built a loving family, raising five children in a home filled with love and devotion. Paul created a life of opportunities for them, instilling in his children the values of love, faith, and generosity. A devoted Catholic, Paul’s faith served as his compass, guiding him in service to others.

Paul worked hard and played hard. He built several successful businesses, earning the recognition and gratitude of his community through his integrity, dedication, and exceptional work ethic. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul’s generous heart was evident in his countless acts of service to his community. He volunteered his time with numerous organizations, including the City of Lancaster Planning Board, the Grant Health Center Board, and the Veterans Administration, where he drove veterans to their medical appointments. He also served as a Minister of the Eucharist at St. Clement’s Church, taught religious education for decades, spent many hours in adoration at the Chapel in Fenimore and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. Over the years, Paul’s dedication extended to too many causes to name them all, always driven by his desire to give back to the community.

In his leisure time, Paul was a long-time athlete and enthusiastic sports fan. Whether swinging a golf club, bowling a strike, playing cards with friends, trick water skiing, or throwing the ball with his grandchildren, his love of sports brought him joy and connection. He especially treasured supporting his children and grandchildren, whether from the sidelines or during time together on the golf course.

To his family, Paul was a pillar of strength, a guide in faith, and a constant source of love. He taught his children to face life’s challenges with determination, and to always show up for one another with open hearts and open arms. His tender smile brought to others a feeling of genuine love. His life was a masterclass in compassion, joy, and devotion—a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

As we say goodbye to Paul, we take comfort in knowing he lived a life filled with love and purpose. To honor his memory, we encourage you to cherish your loved ones and find joy in your time together. Paul is now reunited with his beloved wife, Myrna—whom he lost just a few short months ago—his parents, Arnold Sr. and Josephine, and his siblings Arnold Jr., Mary (Schoenman), and Joseph.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses—Perry (Lori), Paula O’Neil (Pat), Kelli Crane (Stephen), Heidi Thuli Young (Tim), and Matt (Jody)—and eight grandchildren: Anna and Grace O’Neil, Jack and Emmett Thuli, Catherine and William Crane, and Luke and Jude Young. He also survived by his three sisters—Josephine Bittle (Eldon, MO), Emma Novinski (Boscobel, WI), and Katherine Stauffacher (Madison, WI), and many other cherished family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster, WI, with Father Steve Brunner officiating. Family will greet friends on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Private family burial will be at a later date.  The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared in Paul’s life and invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating his legacy. Deep gratitude is extended to Morningside Assisted Living Center and St. Croix Hospice, whose compassionate care brought him peace in his final days. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paul Thuli Memorial Fund, benefiting Morningside Assisted Living Center and St. Croix Hospice. Mostly the family asks that you hold your loved ones close.
