Norman L. Crane Schaal, age 86, of Potosi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 08, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. He was born on September 12, 1927, the son of Ray and Elizabeth (Cammack) Schaal. Crane attended Pea Ridge Elementary School in rural Potosi and attended high school in Cassville where he graduated in 1945. After his honorable service in the Navy, he met and married Dorothy Gabel on December 27, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Crane loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cutting wood and an occasional beer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Crane was employed at Dubuque Packing Company for many years. When the Packing Company closed, Crane decided to retire. He did many odd jobs around his house and property and also helped friends when they needed help. He and his wife of fifty plus years loved to go dancing and have a good time with family and friends.
Survivors include his two sons: Rick (Jackie) Schaal; Steve (Kari) Schaal; four grandsons: Alston, Logan, Gabel, and Skyler; three step-grandsons: Eric and Nathan (Sara) Hopper and Craig (Lori) Hopper; four step-great-grandchildren, Vince (Jane) Hopper, Leah Hopper, Logan Hopper, and Hailee Linsey and a brother, Burdette Joe (Gerry) Schaal.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Douglas and Larry Schaal.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi with Pastor Teri Hanson officiating. Private family burial was in Cassville Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
