Norman L. Jiggs Hampton, age 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Lancaster Care Center. He was born on November 24, 1930, in Cassville, the son of Laverne and Gertrude (Kirschbaum) Hampton. Jiggs graduated from Cassville High School in 1948. After graduation, he was involved with the rodeo out West and worked in the wheat fields. On September 22, 1953, Jiggs was united in marriage to Delores Burggraf at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. After his marriage, he was employed with the Grant County Highway Department for many years. Jiggs loved horses. He was an avid outdoorsman especially enjoying hunting and fishing. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Lancaster; his children: Mike (Jean) Hampton; Dennis (Carol) Hampton; Robert Buck (Jackie) Hampton; all of Lancaster; Becky (Douglas) Schildgen, Waterloo, IA: Laurie Hampton; Sandy (Gary) Schildgen, all of Lancaster; Tami (Bryan) Quinn, Dodgeville; nineteen grandchildren and one on the way; twenty great-grandchildren and one on the way; his brothers and sister: Walt (Mary) Hampton; Junior (Rose) Hampton; Pete (Marcia) Hampton; Butch (Linda) Hampton; Lois Dechow; many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jiggs was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Schildgen; a sister, Betty Hampton; and a brother-in-law, Calvin Dechow.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father John Sasse officiating. Burial was at a later date. Family and friends called on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
