Norman C. Haas, age 77, of Cassville, died on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 13, 1933, in Cassville, the son of Arch and Rose (Reding) Haas. Norm attended country school in Cassville and was employed at Kleinpell Lumber before entering the service and serving his country during the Cold War. Following his honorable discharge, Norm was employed with Walz Lumber. On November 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Patricia Weidemann at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. Norm was later employed with Wisconsin Power and Light for thirty years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Knights. Norm was very active in the Cassville Community. He was a volunteer fireman for fifty years, served as fire chief for twelve years, and was the fire inspector for many years. Norm also drove school bus for forty years without a scratch on the bus and participated Twin-O-Rama for thirty years. He was caretaker and sexton for St. Charles Cemetery for over twenty years. Norm was also a member of the Cassville Ski Busters snowmobile club and was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Haas, Cassville; two children: Rod Haas, Minneapolis, MN; Sandy (Paul) Haverland, Cassville; three grandchildren: Tera Haas, Woodbury, MN; Tricia and Todd Haverland, Cassville; his brothers and sisters: Francis Haas, Cassville; Monroe (Dorothy) Haas, Lancaster; Bernice (Stu) Kepler, Amherst Junction, WI; Helen Haas, Madison; Ruth (Dave) Schriener, Deerfield; his sister-in-law, Ruth Haas, Cassville; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his brothers: Maurice, LaVerne and Louis Haas.
Funeral services were on Monday, February 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors was held in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends called on Sunday, February 20, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church where a 3:00 p.m. scripture service was held. Friends also called on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Cassville Fire Department or the Cassville Rescue Squad.
