Norbert E. Gengler

Norbert E. Gengler, age 73, of Lancaster, formerly of Bloomington, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison. He was born on December 30, 1943, in Beetown Township, the son of Edward and Ruth (Stark) Gengler. Norbert attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bloomington. He worked for Maurice Thole in Lancaster. On August 17, 1964, Norbert was united in marriage to Karol Carpenter. After their marriage, Norbert worked for John Deere. In 1982, he opened his own auto mechanic and autobody shop; due to health reasons, he retired in 1996. Norbert enjoyed country western music, farm work and was a jack of all trades. He was truly a selfless man who took joy in helping others. Norbert was a jokester and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Karol, of Lancaster; children: Stacey (Maggie) Gengler and Rick Gengler, all of Lancaster; James (Joanna) Gengler, Phoenix, AZ; Susan Gengler, Hazel Green; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Arlene Rauch, Mary Wiest, Robert (Vicky) Gengler, and Marilyn (Jerry) Harrington; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Norbert was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann (Robert) Bennett; a brother, Joseph (Beth) Gengler; a grandson, Bryce Gengler, and a nephew, Eddie Bennett.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster. Friends may also call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
