Nicholas C. Nick Hill, age 66, of Potosi, died peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with Agent Orange, which he contracted during his three tours of duty in Vietnam, which lead to many other medical complications. Nick was born on February 24, 1947, in Patch Grove Township, son of Ruth A. (Hill) Mezera and William J. Mezera. He served his country in the United States Army from October 1966 until April 1977. Nick was employed as a chef while in the service and at various other places after leaving the Army. He drove semi truck for Freymiller Trucking, where he earned safe driving records for four years in a row. Nick also worked at Capital Warehousing Corp. in Windsor and SSI Technologies, Inc. in Janesville after he retired from trucking. He was a lifetime member of the Berg Averkamp VFW Post No. 5276 of Potosi. Nick loved to cook, do canning, fishing, woodworking, eat ice cream and make crafts. He also enjoyed the time spent with his son, Nicky, family and friends. Nick was a very generous person and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his son, Nicholas Nicky Charles Hill, II, Dodgeville; his parents: Ruth and William Bill Mezera, Potosi; his siblings: Mike (Dorren) Mezera, Lancaster; Dianna (Ken) Richardson, Potosi; Karen (fianc Sonny) Schlichtmann, Cuba City; Vanessa (Tim) Rosseter, Boyd; Ellen Ellie (fianc Aaron) Cragg, Potosi; and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Randy Mezera, a sister, Geraldine Geri Mezera Winter, maternal and paternal grandparents, two brothers-in-law, Clarence Schlichtmann and Charlie Winter; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Platteville, with Pastor Dave Barna officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Friends called from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Potosi, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
