Neva I. Meyer, age 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Morning Side Assisted Living. She was born on April 20, 1928, in Pontiac, IL, the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Smith) Berlett. On July 19, 1945, Neva was united in marriage to Raymond H. Smith in Washington, IL. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1994. She was employed as a nurse's aide at Lancaster Memorial Hospital for twenty-five years. On October 9, 1995, she was united in marriage to Bob Meyer. He preceded her in death in September of 2004. Neva was a member of the Bethlehem E&R Church, Church Council, was a Sunday school teacher, Brownie Troop Leader and member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching movies and shopping.
Survivors include her two daughters: Jeanne (Butch) Griswold; Patsy (Max) Needham; five grandchildren: Christine (Dave) Hahn; Kelly (Larry) Foyt; Max (Kari) Needham; Jennifer (Dave) Bussan; Brad (Lisa) Griswold; 12 great-grandchildren: Spencer and Blake Hahn; Adam, Brody, Carson, and Payton Griswold; Zach and Riley Foyt; Aidyn Bussan; Finley, Anistyn, and Max IV Needham; her siblings: Tom Berlett; Phyllis Schmidt; Dorothy Kline; Norma Livingood; four sisters-in-law: Mert Berlett; Gloria Berlett; Kathyrn Smith; and Florence Berger.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, Neva was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; her siblings: Ray, Jim, Bill, and Jerry Berlett; Irene Bauer; Anna Brubaker.
Memorial services were held on Monday, December 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem E&R Church in Lancaster with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Bethlehem E&R Church or the Schreiner Memorial Library. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is assisting the family.
