Neva E. Place, age 95, of Belmont passed away January 6, 2018 at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. She was born July 1, 1922 in Poynette, WI, the daughter of Theodore “Tate” and Leona (Helms) Busch. She graduated from Belmont High School in 1940. Neva married Wendell “Buzz” Place on September 12, 1962 at Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Throughout her life, she worked at Sweet’s Grocery, Mound City Bank, Nodolf Lumber, and the Do Drop Inn, all in Belmont. After Neva “retired” she ran the lunch room at the Belmont Sale Barn until she was 80 years old. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making treats for friends – even making rolls for the coffee group at the pool hall each week. Neva was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, and is remembered for baking cinnamon rolls each year at Easter.
She is survived by her son, Paul Place.
In addition to her parents, Neva was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell “Buzz”, on October 4, 1994; and a sister, Ila Mae Bockhop.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont with Pastor Connie Matye officiating. Burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Neva E. Place Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Platteville is entrusted with her services.
